With advanced features such as Monitoring, Forecasting, Peak Shaving, Blockchain Billing, Load Shifting integrated into the IMEON Virtual Power Plant Platform, Imeon Energy provides a packaged solution for large-scale, next-generation green energy production.

It’s more apparent than ever before that meeting future needs of humanity calls for immediate integration of renewable energies into the global energy production and distribution infrastructure. To successfully complete this transition, it is necessary to reinvent the architecture of the distribution network as well as the way of producing, storing and consuming energy.

Imeon Energy has developed a revolutionary Virtual Power Plant able to be seamlessly weaved into the existing power grids in order to partially replace centralized energy production plants. Imeon VPP Management Platform remotely supervises Imeon hybrid inverters allowing users to exchange the energy produced by their solar plants and allowing grid operators to benefit from the Grid Assist features of the Platform. The VPP Management Platform handles the aggregation of multiple Imeon inverters with their dedicated storage, grouped together into manageable clusters. Connected to the Internet and remotely controllable, these facilities will be able to provide, in addition to instantaneous energy output, storage capacities available for voltage and / or frequency adjustments as well as energy sink / supply services among others. In order to secure the metering information about the exchanged energy and the recording of the carried-out operations, Imeon Energy has developed a process of validation based on the Blockchain which has been integrated into the VPP Platform. The use of Blockchain makes trusted third-party verification completely redundant and allows Imeon Energy to provide all users of the VPP Platform with multilevel traceability as well as unrivaled transparency.

Much more than a manufacturer of solar hybrid inverters, IMEON ENERGY is constantly developing new software applications and working on projects related to artificial intelligence in order to improve the performance of its solutions and the satisfaction of owners of IMEON hybrid inverters.

This application allows one to authorize, limit or prohibit the injection of electricity to the public distribution network with a single click.

Integrated into the IMEON OS. ONE operating system, the “Grid Export Control” is an innovative application developed by IMEON ENERGY and accessible free of charge to owners of an Imeon hybrid inverter.

While the laws allowing the Feed In Tariffs (FIT) and Net Metering (NEM) schemes are still in force in multiple jurisdictions across the globe, in many regions the export of energy to the grid is either limited, taxed or prohibited. The governing bodies of these states prefer to incentify the use of solar systems coupled with local battery storage, since the recent decline of the energy storage prices makes the investment in solar self-consumption installations a reasonable alternative to consumption of electricity coming from the public grid. To comply with various different policies and grid codes, IMEON ENERGY has developed the Grid Export Control application which allows the installers and users alike to adapt the configuration of their Imeon solar hybrid inverter through IMEON OS. ONE interface.

Depending on the settings, the export of power to the grid can be disabled, limited to a certain value or allowed. In the default operating mode (Smart Grid mode) if the export of power to the grid is enabled, Imeon will first dispatch the solar production of PV panels to the loads, if the excess of production is available it will be dispatched to charge the battery, and if the battery does not need any charge, exported to grid. Those priorities can also be adapted if necessary, but setting them like so guarantees optimized and efficient use of renewable energy produced by the plant.

diagram of operating principle of MULTISTAKING

Integrated into the IMEON OS. ONE operating system, the “Multistacking” is an innovative application developed by IMEON ENERGY and accessible free of charge to owners of an Imeon hybrid inverter.

Imeon inverters are packaged and delivered together with a Smart Metering device which measures the real time power consumption of the installation site and reports the measurement to the inverter. Imeon reacts to the data coming from the Smart Meter by adapting the power injected to the grid node to match the indication of the meter. The ultimate goal of this feature is to bring down the power drawn from the electricity network as close to zero as possible while avoiding the unnecessary export of power to the grid. In certain cases, if the load exceeds the power rating of the inverter it is not possible to completely offset the energy consumption; a 9kW inverter cannot compensate 21kW of consumption. In multistacking topology, with injection of multiple AC-coupled inverters governed by a single Smart Meter, such compensation is feasible. The meter will send the information to a “stack” of several inverters at the same time, and the stack will adapt their injection to offset the common load while avoiding export. Increasing the number of the inverters in the stack automatically increases their capacity to compensate the energy drawn from the grid.

This application meets the requirements of local Australian grid code (AS/NZS 4777.2) which, among specific requirements for connection, calls for compatibility with Demand Response Enabling Devices (DRED). The DRED is under control of a local network operator and allows to put the inverter in one of the Demand Response Modes (DRMs) defined by the standard:

DRM 0 Operate the disconnection device

DRM 1 Do not consume power

DRM 2 Do not consume at more than 50% of rated power

DRM 3 Do not consume at more than 75% of rated power and source reactive power if capable

DRM 4 Increase power consumption (subject to constraints from other active DRMs)

DRM 5 Do not generate power

DRM 6 Do not generate at more than 50% of rated power

DRM 7 Do not generate at more than 75% of rated power and sink reactive power if capable.

DRM 8 Increase power generation (subject to constraints from other active DRMs)

Currently, it is mandatory to respond to DRM0, which allows the network manager to remotely decouple the installation from the distribution network.

Unbalanced Phases is an application that allows the three phase IMEON 9.12 to adjust the injection of solar energy separately per phase, depending on the load on each phase.

A standard three phase solar inverter injects one third of the total generated solar production on each phase symmetrically without taking into account the consumption per phase.

In practical example if a site consumes:

2kW on phase 1,

3kW on phase 2, and

1kW on phase 3,

a total of 6kW, a standard solar inverter would inject 2kW to each phase. As a result:

consumption of phase 1 would be compensated, while

consumption of phase 2 would require a complementary 1kW of power to be drawn from the grid, while

consumption on phase 3 would be compensated, with 1kW of power exported to the grid.

This is not always the best solution, especially for networks which employ per-phase metering and which prohibit export of energy to grid.

When the Unbalanced Phases application is active, the IMEON will inject the amount of energy needed to supply the load on each phase, within the constraints of its power rating. In the above example IMEON will adjust the quantity of electricity injected per each phase to lock onto the exact consumption values.
