<p>Integrated into the IMEON OS. ONE operating system, the &#8220;Water Heater&#8221; is an innovative application developed by IMEON ENERGY and accessible free of charge to owners of an Imeon hybrid inverter.</p>
<p>In order to amortize the solar installation for self-consumption as quickly as possible, it is essential to self-consume the maximum of the energy produced by the photovoltaic installation since the electricity exported to the public electricity distribution network is worth very little, if anything at all. The &#8220;Water Heater&#8221; application has been developed to maximize the rate of self-consumption precisely. The operating principle is simple: when an excess of solar production is detected by the Smart-Meter (solar production is in this case greater than the electricity consumption of the building), the IMEON inverter will use its internal relay to remotely switch on the home&#8217;s water heater, connected to the inverter’s relay by the installer beforehand. The water heater will therefore start up and use the solar kWh which, without activating the application, would have been exported into the public grid. This principle, also called &#8220;load control&#8221;, allows creating a &#8220;solar off-peak hour&#8221;, a time when cheap solar energy is being used. This application works for conventional electric water heaters; it should not be used with thermodynamic water heaters which heating cycles must not be interrupted. For proper operation, it is necessary to comply with the wiring recommendations indicated in the official IMEON ENERGY’s documentation for this feature. The abovementioned wiring may vary depending on the type of electricity tariffs (for example peak and off-peak hours in France).</p>

<p>Being able to communicate with the devices from Philips Hue family of light fixtures creates a great way to pass information to users of IMEON hybrid solar inverters with the use of light!</p>
<p>The configuration interface of the &#8220;Smart Lighting&#8221; application allows easy and intuitive setup. In this interface, the user can program the behaviour of the lights in function of the following parameters:</p>
<ul>
<li>State of charge of the battery bank connected to the IMEON inverter: it is possible to change the colour of the lamp to green, orange or red depending on the state of charge of the storage.</li>
<li>Average power consumption over the last three minutes: it is possible to change colour of the lamp to green, orange or red depending on the power consumed by the home during this period.</li>
<li>Self-production rate (or autonomy) over the last three minutes: it is possible to change colour of the lamp to green, orange or red depending on the self-production rate reached during this period.</li>
</ul>
<p>The &#8220;Smart Lighting&#8221; application, developed by IMEON ENERGY teams, is a way of making the user aware of their consumption habits in order to encourage change! The mere fact of adding a solar installation already makes it possible to make savings on the electricity bills but the solar installations have the biggest impact if the users are consciously involved in optimizing their energy consumption. This process can be assisted if the solar system can communicate complex information in a straightforward way, triggering users to act accordingly, for instance by shifting the operation time of some devices during the day when production is optimal or even by double checking if all the non essential appliances are off.</p>

<p>While the laws allowing the Feed In Tariffs (FIT) and Net Metering (NEM) schemes are still in force in multiple jurisdictions across the globe, in many regions the export of energy to the grid is either limited, taxed or prohibited. The governing bodies of these states prefer to incentify the use of solar systems coupled with local battery storage, since the recent decline of the energy storage prices makes the investment in solar self-consumption installations a reasonable alternative to consumption of electricity coming from the public grid. To comply with various different policies and grid codes, IMEON ENERGY has developed the Grid Export Control application which allows the installers and users alike to adapt the configuration of their Imeon solar hybrid inverter through IMEON OS. ONE interface.</p>
<p>Depending on the settings, the export of power to the grid can be disabled, limited to a certain value or allowed. In the default operating mode (Smart Grid mode) if the export of power to the grid is enabled, Imeon will first dispatch the solar production of PV panels to the loads, if the excess of production is available it will be dispatched to charge the battery, and if the battery does not need any charge, exported to grid. Those priorities can also be adapted if necessary, but setting them like so guarantees optimized and efficient use of renewable energy produced by the plant.</p>

<p>To assist the installers and to provide detailed feedback about the performance of the solar installation managed by Imeon, we have created a transparent and interactive log of events registered by the inverter. The Timeline application is accessible locally, through IMEON OS. ONE operating system’s interface as well as remotely, via IMEON ONLINE monitoring platform. The events registered by the unit and displayed by the Timeline Events can be viewed as a table, where the events can be conveniently grouped by a category or type or as a chronological record through which you can scroll to consult the status of the installation, since the first initialisation of the inverter.</p>
<p>The application has been among the first software features published by IMEON ENERGY’s developers for the OS. ONE environment and has proven itself to be a valuable and appreciated diagnostic tool and source of information. The fact that the timeline as well as detailed performance statistics can be viewed by the installer of the system remotely, allows the installers to limit the unnecessary visits on the site, which helps to cut costs, save time and increase the profitability of their businesses.</p>

<p>This application not only uses weather data converted into potential production but also adjusts this data to the actual production of the solar installation at the production site. The most accurate weather sensor is the solar panel, which is precisely located at the production site and reflects the exact weather at time &#8220;T&#8221;!</p>
<p>By correlating the weather forecast and the instantaneous production of the photovoltaic installation, the IMEON hybrid inverter <strong>performs a production forecast of the solar installation for the next 24 hours</strong>.</p>
<p>This data is important as it allows the user to <strong>schedule the operation of certain appliances</strong> such as the washing machine, dishwasher or tumble dryer according to the predicted production. It becomes very simple to create your own solar off-peak time based on the system&#8217;s production forecast.</p>

<p>Le fait de prévoir la consommation du site équipé d’un onduleur hybride IMEON est une fonctionnalité unique développée par IMEON ENERGY et rendue possible par l’utilisation de l’intelligence artificielle. Grâce à cette application, l’onduleur va enregistrer et apprendre, pendant une durée de sept jours minimum, les habitudes de consommation électrique des occupants du bâtiment. En fonction des données recueillis et calculées, l’onduleur IMEON pourra, si nécessaire, adapter son fonctionnement dans le but d’obtenir les meilleurs résultats possibles, en fonction des objectifs de l’utilisateur. L’onduleur IMEON est également capable de prévoir la production solaire grâce à l’application “Weather Coupling” qui fonctionne grâce au même principe d’apprentissage, aux prévisions météo recueillies via la connexion Web et à un ajustement de ces prévisions en fonction de l’historique de production réelle des panneaux solaires.</p>

<p>Imeon inverters are packaged and delivered together with a Smart Metering device which measures the real time power consumption of the installation site and reports the measurement to the inverter. Imeon reacts to the data coming from the Smart Meter by adapting the power injected to the grid node to match the indication of the meter. The ultimate goal of this feature is to bring down the power drawn from the electricity network as close to zero as possible while avoiding the unnecessary export of power to the grid. In certain cases, if the load exceeds the power rating of the inverter it is not possible to completely offset the energy consumption; a 9kW inverter cannot compensate 21kW of consumption. In multistacking topology, with injection of multiple AC-coupled inverters governed by a single Smart Meter, such compensation is feasible. The meter will send the information to a “stack” of several inverters at the same time, and the stack will adapt their injection to offset the common load while avoiding export. Increasing the number of the inverters in the stack automatically increases their capacity to compensate the energy drawn from the grid.</p>

<p>This newly developed Imeon OS. ONE application is an addition to already existing diagnostic tools, intended to assist installers in their trade. The message sent by the application contains details about the particular event which occurred in the installation, enabling proactive maintenance or swift troubleshooting. There is no longer need for multiple site visits as the first diagnostics can be effectuated online, with use of IMEON ONLINE platform interface, leading to reduction of installer’s cost and time spent on issue analysis. The instant notification helps to reduce installation’s downtime, minimizing yield losses for the end-users, bringing the much important piece of mind knowing that even if something goes wrong, everything is under control.</p>

<p>Integrated into the IMEON OS. ONE operating system, the &#8220;Peak Shaving&#8221; is an innovative application developed by IMEON ENERGY and accessible free of charge to owners of an Imeon hybrid inverter.<br />
Imeon inverters come packaged together with a Smart Meter, which is a device responsible for measuring the consumption of the electricity drawn from public electricity grid and reporting the real time consumption value to Imeon. Thanks to the peak shaving application, one can fix a power consumption value (in Watts) from which the inverter will start injecting the renewable energy coming from the PV array and/or batteries to compensate the consumption from the grid. If the consumption value of a 1000W is set in the application, it means that consumption of power from the grid of up to 1000W is allowed and anything above that value should be compensated by the solar system. The compensation will be secured within the possibilities of the inverter, which means that a 3kW Imeon 3.6 will be able to offset up to 3kW of consumption from the grid if energy from the PV array and/or battery is available at that time. Thanks to the information sent to the inverter by the Smart Meter the Imeon will actively, in real time, adapt the power injected to the grid to avoid exporting the power. However, if the export of excess photovoltaic production is beneficial for the user of the system, such export can then be enabled.<br />
If the consumption value configured in Peak shaving application is set to 0 Watts, the inverter will attempt to offset any consumption of electricity from the public electricity grid. A possibility to configure the offset point, provides much needed flexibility, making Imeon an inverter that can perfectly fulfill more complex requirements.<br />

<p>Integrated into the IMEON OS. ONE operating system, the &#8220;Seasonal Cut-off&#8221; is an innovative application developed by IMEON ENERGY and accessible free of charge to owners of an Imeon hybrid inverter.<br />
The DOD settings defines how much of the battery capacity can be discharged before it needs to be recharged. The DOD set to 50% figuratively tells Imeon “do not discharge more than 50% of the battery’s capacity”. The possibility to configure two separate DOD thresholds depending on availability of the grid is important if one requires reserving a certain volume of energy in the battery for backup purposes. In practical example, one can set the “DOD with grid available” to 50% and “DOD with grid unavailable” to 85%, which means that in case of a blackout, the inverter will be able to use at least 15% of the battery’s capacity to supply power to the essential loads, through a dedicated backup output built into each Imeon.<br />
The availability of solar energy is not uniform throughout the year. In northern hemisphere, any solar photovoltaic array will perform better during June and July and will be underperforming during winter months of December and January simply because the days are shorter and the sun’s path across the sky is lower during that time of the year. Since the volume of energy available to replenish the battery varies between seasons it becomes important to assure that the battery is cycled accordingly. Making sure that the battery is fully charged throughout the year requires therefore different DOD settings, depending on the time of the year.<br />
